Amazon comincia a trasmettere contenuti in HDR10+: cos'è e come funziona

Samsung e Amazon hanno collaborato sullo sviluppo di un nuovo standard per la visualizzazione di contenuti HDR che è stato battezzato HDR10+ e annunciato lo scorso aprile.

Nell’articolo HDR TV, cos’è e come funziona abbiamo spiegato cosa significa HDR e come questa tecnologia sia in grado “di migliorare la qualità dei pixel” che compongono l’immagine.

HDR10+ utilizza sempre lo stesso pannello a 10 bit introdotto con lo standard HDR10 (un pannello a 10 bit permette al televisore di riprodurre ben 1 miliardo di colori) ma, in più, permette di veicolare informazioni aggiuntive su ogni singolo frame che compone la scena. Questi metadati possono essere utilizzati per migliorare la qualità complessiva del video agendo sulla resa della singola immagine.
Ecco perché HDR10+ non richiede modifiche dal punto di vista hardware quanto piuttosto un firmware aggiornato, capace di gestire adeguatamente lo standard di Samsung e Amazon.

HDR10+ può essere pensato come un “aggiornamento” teso a colmare il gap con Dolby Vision.

Amazon ha annunciato che a partire da quest’oggi, 13 dicembre, alcuni contenuti pubblicati su Prime Video inizieranno ad essere trasmessi in HDR10+.
I televisori compatibili sono i Samsung più recenti: i 4K UHD del 2017 ma anche i 4K del 2016 previo aggiornamento del firmware.

Anche Netflix dovrebbe presto aggiornare la sua piattaforma per abbracciare anche il supporto di HDR10+.
