Anche l'ultima versione LTS di Ubuntu Linux scivola sulla patch anti Meltdown

Canonical conferma il problema e rilascia un nuovo aggiornamento del kernel per rendere nuovamente avviabili i sistemi bloccati dalla patch anti Meltdown.

Le patch anti Meltdown e Spectre fanno strage anche su Linux. I forum della distribuzione Ubuntu sono stati letteralmente presi d’assalto dagli utenti della versione 16.04 Xenial Xerus.

In tutti i casi veniva segnalata l’impossibilità di avviare Ubuntu dopo l’installazione dell’aggiornamento kernel 4.4.0-108.

Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus è una versione LTS, con supporto a lungo termine (fino al mese di aprile 2021): ecco perché, nonostante sia stata rilasciata nel 2016, è ancor oggi utilizzatissima.

Gli aggiornamenti del kernel, che correggono per il momento solo la vulnerabilità Meltdown ma non Spectre, sono stati corretti da parte dei tecnici di Canonical che hanno provveduto alla distribuzione della release 4.4.0-109.

L’aggiornamento all’ultima versione del kernel o il ripristino dell’immagine 4.4.0-104 consente di risolvere i problemi di avvio di Ubuntu.
