In talune situazioni può accadere che si renda necessario ripristinare l’associazione di default per i file compressi in formato .ZIP. Windows XP e Windows Vista dispongono di un componente integrato in grado di gestire i file di archivio .ZIP. Dopo aver installato software come WinZIP, WinRAR, 7-Zip, IZArc o simili, qualora si volesse tornare sui propri passi, è possibile che l’associazione predefinita non venga automaticamente ripristinata.

Per risolvere il problema, sia su Windows XP che su Windows Vista, è possibile aprire il Prompt dei comandi quindi digitare il comando seguente:

cmd /c assoc .zip=CompressedFolder

Lo stesso risultato è ottenibile accedendo al registro di Windows, portandosi in corrispondenza della chiave HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip, facendo doppio clic sul valore “(Predefinito)”, infine digitando la stringa CompressedFolder.
