È la televisione pubblica giapponese NHK la prima al mondo ad avviare la trasmissione di contenuti in formato 8K.
La risoluzione massima supportata è pari a 7680 x 4320 pixel, ossia quattro volte maggiore rispetto alla 4K; ben sedici volte rispetto alla Full HD 1080p.

I contenuti ad altissima risoluzione, andati in onda a partire dalla giornata di ieri, sono stati battezzati Super Hi-Vision e sono stati trasmessi utilizzando un canale per il momento a carattere sperimentale.

I portavoce della TV nipponica parlano anche del supporto audio a 22.2 canali, il cui schema è visibile in questa pagina.

Al momento non esistono TV 8K. NHK ha però voluto anticipare la concorrenza confermando il suo ruolo pionieristico nell’esplorazione e nell’utilizzo dei nuovi formati.
Dalla TV estremo-orientale si spiega che saranno installati speciali schermi in luoghi pubblici per mostrare le potenzialità del formato 8K.
