Mark Shuttleworth lascerà la “poltrona” di CEO di Canonical, azienda che sponsorizza e cura lo sviluppo di Ubuntu, a Jane Silber. Secondo quanto dichiarato dal magnate sudafricano, la sua decisione avrà decorrenza dal mese di marzo del prossimo anno ed è stata motivata sulla base dell’intenzione di Shuttleworth di focalizzare le sue attività sul miglioramento del prodotto, le partnership ed il rapporto con gli utenti.
Come spiega nell’annuncio ufficiale, Shuttleworth ritiene che l’iniziativa possa contribuire ad una più chiara e netta separazione tra il ruolo svolto da chi guida la comunità Ubuntu ed il CEO di Canonical.

La Silber al momento riveste la figura di “chief operating officer” e di direttore dei servizi online presso Canonical. Nelle fila dell’azienda dal 2004, la Silber al momento si occupa anche del progetto “Ubuntu One“, servizio “in-the-cloud” per la memorizzazione dei dati su server remoti.
