Meltdown e Spectre: come controllare se fosse disponibile un aggiornamento per il microcode

Gibson Research rilascia una nuova versione dell'utility InSpectre: il programma controlla non soltanto se il sistema in uso fosse vulnerabile agli attacchi Meltdown e Spectre ma accerta anche la disponibilità di aggiornamenti per il microcode.

Steve Gibson e il suo team hanno appena pubblicato un aggiornamento di InSpectre, un’utilità gratuita che consente di verificare se il processore installato sul proprio dispositivo sia o meno vulnerabile agli attacchi Meltdown e Spectre (vedere anche Verificare se il processore in uso è vulnerabile a Meltdown e Spectre).

Rispetto alla precedenti versioni, il nuovo InSpectre controlla anche se fossero disponibili degli aggiornamenti per il microcode, utili per sanare le entrambe le vulnerabilità.

La prima release rilasciata a gennaio (Sistema vulnerabile a Meltdown e Spectre: InSpectre verifica anche l’impatto sulle prestazioni) era più avara di informazioni; il nuovo InSpectre, invece, sulla base dell’identificativo del processore (CPUID) e di quanto riportato nella pagina di supporto Microsoft, sa adesso fornire indicazioni sull’eventuale disponibilità di aggiornamenti per il microcode.
