Debian Linux si arricchisce di un nuovo componente. All’interno della versione “unstable” o riservata agli sviluppatori, la distribuzione accoglie ora il software per la virtualizzazione OpenVZ. Si tratta di un passo che porterà assai probabilmente l’inclusione del progetto opensource nella versione finale di Debian Linux.
OpenVZ consente di creare macchine virtuali isolate ed ambienti di lavori sicuri su una stessa macchina server “fisica”: questo tipo di soluzioni evitano conflitti tra applicazioni, migliorano la produttività e la facilità di gestione del sistema. L’adozione di OpenVZ da parte di Debian è successiva a quelle di Mandriva e Gentoo.
OpenVZ poggia le sue fondamenta sulle soluzioni commerciali (“Virtuozzo”) di SWsoft pur essendo distribuito sotto licenza GNU GPL.
