Con un lungo messaggio pubblicato nella mailing list Debian, il magnate sudafricano Mark Shuttleworth – sponsor del progetto Ubuntu – ha voluto chiarire la sua posizione in merito alla discussione riguardante l’impostazione di un ciclo di sviluppo ben definito per la distribuzione dalla quale è stato derivato lo stesso Ubuntu.

Shuttleworth ha spiegato di aver auspicato, da tempo, un modello di lavoro che permetta di “sincronizzare” l’uscita delle nuove versioni delle varie distribuzioni Linux, soprattutto di quelle che poggiano sugli stessi componenti di base.

Il CEO di Canonical ritiene che il coordinamento delle attività tra Debian ed Ubuntu possa fungere da volano per la conseguente sincronizzazione dei più importanti progetti, come i desktop environment KDE e GNOME, nonché delle altre distribuzioni.

La discussione, in seno a Debian, sembra destinata a proseguire.
