Un client di messaggistica istantanea come WhatsApp ha da sempre fatto leva su servizi di storage online come Google Drive ed Apple iCloud per il backup delle chat e il loro ripristino.
Reinstallare WhatsApp senza perdere nulla è certamente possibile ma è proprio grazie ai backup online di WhatsApp che si riesce a recuperare velocemente tutti i propri dati, comprese conversazioni e allegati, quando si cambia telefono o si installa l’applicazione su un nuovo smartphone con il vecchio che non funziona più.

Attivando la crittografia end-to-end su Drive o iCloud né Google né Apple possono accedere al contenuto dei backup di WhatsApp, come invece poteva avvenire in passato.

Durante l’estate 2022 WhatsApp ha annunciato la possibilità di trasferire i messaggi da Android a iOS e viceversa.

La novità è che a breve WhatsApp dovrebbe consentire il trasferimento delle chat e di tutti gli allegati tra dispositivi Android senza più il bisogno di passare attraverso Google Drive.

La nuova opzione sarà accessibile portandosi nelle impostazioni di WhatsApp (tre puntini in alto a destra nella schermata principale, toccando Chat quindi Trasferimento chat su Android. La nuova funzione è stata avvistata nell’ultima versione beta di WhatsApp.

Per avviare il trasferimento delle chat WhatsApp tra dispositivi Android è necessario inquadrare e acquisire con lo smartphone di destinazione il codice QR mostrato dall’app sul primo device.

La possibilità di trasportare facilmente le chat da un dispositivo Android all’altro non deve tuttavia porre in secondo piano l’importanza di backup regolari.
