Microsoft aveva interrotto lo sviluppo di Windows Media Center già nel 2009 ma gli aficionados erano sempre più convinti di un ritorno del lettore multimediale con Windows 10. Gelate le loro speranze: Windows Media Center è morto.

L’applicazione che permetteva di vedere foto come slideshow, visualizzare video e ascoltare musica organizzando tutto il materiale all’interno di un pratico catalogo multimediale, non sarà più aggiornata dai tecnici Microsoft.

Windows Media Center non sarà più aggiornato
Ogni sistema che verrà aggiornato da Windows 7 o Windows 8.1 a Windows 10, quindi, perderà automaticamente la funzionalità Media Center.

Chi fosse interessato ad utilizzare un software simile a Windows Media Center, può orientare la sua attenzione su KODI (precedentemente noto con il nome di XBMC).
Distribuito sotto licenza GNU GPL, KODI è un software libero che può essere liberamente installato su molteplici piattaforme essendo compatibile con Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Apple TV, Raspberry Pi e Android (vedere la parte finale dell’articolo Usare Android come telecomando).
